What a Subject Access Request is
A Subject Access Request lets you ask an organisation or public authority for the personal data they hold about you. You do not have to explain why you are making a request.
What you can receive
You have the right to receive a copy of your personal data.
This includes personal data held in paper files, computer systems, emails, databases and other recorded forms. The organisation must provide your personal data in a clear and understandable form.
How to make a request and time limits
You can make a Subject Access Request in writing or electronically. You should clearly state that you are asking for your personal data.
No fee can be charged. Organisations and public authorities must respond within 14 working days.
If your request is ignored or refused
If your request is ignored, delayed or refused without a lawful reason, you can complain to the Information and Data Protection Office.
The Information and Data Protection Office can investigate and issue binding orders to require compliance.
